Terms & Conditions
Last updated: August 2026
These terms apply to services provided by The Behaviour Hive. Please read them before booking. By booking a service you agree to them.
1. About us
The Behaviour Hive is a private behaviour psychology practice led by Catherine (Katie) Smyth, MSc, BCBA, a Chartered Behaviour Psychologist registered with the Psychological Society of Ireland. Donadea, Co. Kildare, W91 VY0T · 045 574 041 · info@thebehaviourhive.com
2. What we provide
- Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA)
- Written Behaviour Support Plans (BSP)
- 1:1 child and parent behaviour support sessions
- School in-service training and consultation
- Clinical supervision for Masters ABA students
Services are delivered in person at your home, your child's school, our premises, or online, depending on what is agreed.
3. What we do not provide
This is important, and we would rather be clear at the outset.
- We are not a diagnostic service. We do not diagnose autism, ADHD or any other condition. A Functional Behaviour Assessment identifies the function of behaviour; it is not a diagnostic assessment and should not be presented as one.
- We are not an emergency or crisis service. We do not provide out-of-hours cover. If you or your child are at immediate risk, contact your GP, attend your local emergency department, or call 112 or 999.
- We do not replace medical care. Our work complements, but does not substitute for, care from your GP, paediatrician or mental health service.
- We cannot guarantee outcomes. Behaviour change depends on many factors, including consistent implementation at home and in school. We commit to evidence-based practice and honest advice, not to a particular result.
4. The free consultation
The initial 30-minute consultation is free and carries no obligation. It is an opportunity to discuss your situation and decide together whether we are the right fit. It is not an assessment, and no clinical advice or plan is provided during it.
5. Fees
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| FBA and BSP Package | €2,100, or three monthly instalments of €700 |
| Functional Behaviour Assessment only | €1,850 |
| Behaviour Support Plan only | €400 |
| 1:1 child and parent sessions | Available upon request / direct enquiry |
| School in-service days and training | Available upon request / direct enquiry |
Fees are quoted in euro and include all preparation, report writing and feedback unless stated otherwise. Travel outside our standard service area may attract an additional charge, which will always be agreed in advance.
6. Payment
- Payment is due prior to the commencement of assessment or within 14 days of invoice.
- The three-instalment option on the FBA and BSP Package is spread across the assessment period and must be agreed before the assessment begins.
- Reports are released once the agreed fee, or the agreed instalment schedule, is up to date.
- We accept payment via direct bank transfer or debit/credit card.
7. Health insurance
Some private health insurers, including VHI, Laya Healthcare and Irish Life Health, may reimburse part of the cost of assessment. Cover varies by policy and by plan. We can provide a receipt for your claim, but we cannot advise on your entitlement and we cannot guarantee that any claim will succeed. Please check your policy before booking.
8. Cancellation and rescheduling
We ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. We understand that families managing complex needs cannot always plan ahead, and we will always try to be reasonable.
- Cancelled or rescheduled with more than 24 hours' notice: no charge.
- Cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or not attended: the full session fee may be charged.
- Illness or genuine emergency: please contact us. We do not charge where a child is unwell.
- If we need to cancel, we will offer the earliest alternative appointment or a full refund of any fee paid for that session.
9. Your right to cancel a distance contract
Where you book a service without meeting us in person, you generally have 14 days from entering the contract to cancel without giving a reason, under Irish and EU consumer law.
If you ask us to begin the service within that 14-day period and then cancel, you remain liable for the value of the work already carried out. If you would prefer to wait until the cancellation period has passed before we begin, simply tell us.
10. Attendance and participation
Our approach depends on parents and carers implementing strategies between sessions. Where agreed actions are not carried out, progress will be limited and we will discuss this with you openly.
We ask that sessions take place in a setting where the work can be done safely and without significant interruption, and that observations are scheduled at times that reflect a typical day.
11. Records, confidentiality and reports
We keep clinical records in line with PSI guidance and our Privacy Policy. Confidentiality is subject to the limits set out there, including our statutory duty as a mandated person under the Children First Act 2015 to report child protection concerns to Tusla[cite: 1].
Reports we produce are prepared for you and for the purpose agreed. You may share them with your child's school or other professionals. They should not be published, altered, or used in legal proceedings without discussing this with us first, as they are not prepared for that purpose.
12. Behaviour towards our team
We are committed to a respectful working relationship. We reserve the right to end an engagement where there is abusive or threatening behaviour towards our team, and to charge for work completed to that point.
13. Complaints
If you are unhappy with any aspect of our service, please tell us. Our Complaints Procedure sets out how we will handle it.
14. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Subject to that, our liability in connection with any service is limited to the fees paid for that service.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland and are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish courts.
16. Changes
We may update these terms. The version in force is the one published on this page at the time of your booking.
