Our Philosophy
A Holistic Approach to Behaviours of Concern
At The Behaviour Hive, we believe that every behaviour is a form of communication. Our mission is to move away from 'fixing' and towards understanding. We provide neuro-affirming behaviour support that prioritises the wellbeing of the child and the confidence of the caregiver.
Whether your family is navigating Autism, ADHD, developmental delays, or you are seeking strategies for challenging behaviour without a formal diagnosis, we are here to help. Based in Kildare, we combine professional evidence with deep empathy to support families across Ireland and beyond
Understanding the 'Why'
We use Functional Assessment principles to identify the root cause of a behaviour, looking at the environment, sensory needs, and communication.
Empowering the Caregiver
We believe the parent is the expert on their child. Our goal is to give you the skills to foster long-term, sustainable change
Practical, Real-World Tools
We don't give "textbook" advice. We provide practical strategies that fit into a busy family home in the real world
“I created The Behaviour Hive to give families what I’ve seen missing for too long: hands-on support that feels human, not clinical. No jargon. Just clarity, confidence, and connection.

Meet Catherine (Katie) Smyth
Lead Behaviour Consultant & Chartered Behaviour Psychologist
With over a decade of high-level clinical experience spanning the USA, the Middle East, and Ireland, Katie Smyth is a Chartered Behaviour Psychologist (PSI) dedicated to systemic family support.
Katie’s expertise was forged in some of the world’s most renowned clinical environments. She spent several years at the New England Center for Children (NECC) in Boston, working at the intersection of high-dependency care and intensive behavioural intervention. Her international career continued in the UAE, where she collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to integrate complex support strategies into high-standard educational settings and the home life of families.
Back in Ireland, Katie has spent years providing clinical oversight within the residential care system, managing high-intensity cases and fostering second-chance opportunities for children with significant challenges. She is a specialist in navigating the bridge between home and school, having worked extensively alongside teachers, SNAs, and SET teams to build life skills and social independence in the classroom.
Katie has worked with:
Young children in early years and preschool settings
Primary and secondary-aged children in mainstream and special education
Adolescents and young adults in care or residential settings
Her clients have also included individuals with:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Intellectual Disabilities (ID)
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
Global Developmental Delay (GDD)
Emotional and behavioural regulation difficulties
High-risk and complex behavioural profiles
Beyond the clinical data, Katie is a passionate advocate for parent empowerment. She has conducted hundreds of parent training sessions, helping families move from confusion to clarity. Her approach is multi-modal; she incorporates ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) techniques to help clients and parents manage the emotional weight of their journey while mastering the foundational basics of behaviour.
At The Behaviour Hive, Katie combines this global clinical rigour with a neuro-affirming lens. Whether supporting families through Autism, ADHD, or complex 'behaviours of concern,' her mission is to provide evidence-based, compassionate strategies that work in the real world.
The Hive Approach
A Modern Framework for Behavioural Support
Neuro-Affirming Practice
We don’t believe in 'masking' or changing who a child is. Whether we are supporting a child with Autism, ADHD, or general developmental needs, our goal is to foster self-advocacy and confidence. We focus on strengths, not just 'behaviours'
Evidence-Based & Ethical
Our strategies are grounded in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). We use data-driven insights to understand the 'why' behind a behaviour, ensuring our interventions are both effective and deeply ethical
Family-Centred & Practical
We know that life doesn't happen in a clinic; it happens at the kitchen table. We provide practical tools for parents all over Ireland that actually work in the context of a busy family home
The 4-Step Hive Process
Why we are Different
We know that the people who spend the most time with a child are in the best position to help them thrive. That’s why we work with you, not around you.
Whether you’re just starting your journey or have been navigating behavioural challenges for years, The Behaviour Hive is here to offer support, knowledge, and connection, without the waitlists or the jargon.
"My promise to you is simple: I will listen without judgment, I will bring the best of behavioural science to your table, and together, we will find a path that brings peace back to your home." — Katie Smyth
