At The Behaviour Hive, we believe that understanding a child’s behaviour starts by supporting the people who know them best.
We offer practical, evidence-based training and consultation tailored for families, caregivers, and educators across Ireland—and beyond
Founded by a Chartered Psychologist and Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, our mission is simple:
To make behaviour support more human, more accessible, and more empowering for families.
When we equip the circle around the child, we help the child thrive.
Why the Behaviour Hive?
The hive is a powerful metaphor. It symbolises structure, community, and shared purpose.
Just like in a hive, every parent, caregiver, teacher, and support person has a role—and when we work together, we create something stronger than any one person alone.
Our name reflects this belief: that change happens not just through expert advice, but through collaboration, shared wisdom, and steady, intentional action.
“I created The Behaviour Hive to give families what I’ve seen missing for too long: hands-on support that feels human, not clinical. No jargon. Just clarity, confidence, and connection.

Meet Catherine (Katie) Smyth
BCBA · Chartered Psychologist · Founder of The Behaviour Hive
Katie Smyth is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and Chartered Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland.
With over a decade of experience, she has supported children, adolescents, and adults with behavioural needs across a wide range of settings—home, school, residential, and clinical—both in Ireland and internationally.
Katie has worked with:
Young children in early years and preschool settings
Primary and secondary-aged children in mainstream and special education
Adolescents and young adults in care or residential settings
Her clients have also included individuals with:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Intellectual Disabilities (ID)
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
Global Developmental Delay (GDD)
Emotional and behavioural regulation difficulties
High-risk and complex behavioural profiles
From providing skill-building supports for toddlers to designing behaviour support plans for teens with high-intensity needs, Katie brings a rare blend of clinical expertise, cultural sensitivity, and practical insight to each case. Her time on the Intensive Treatment Team at the New England Center for Children in Boston deepened her experience with more extreme cases of behavioural challenges, while her more recent work with families children and adults across Ireland and the Middle East reinforced her commitment to accessible, family-centred care.
What truly sets Katie apart is her ability to meet families where they are—whether they’re feeling lost in a sea of information, burned out from long waitlists, or simply needing someone to help translate the next steps.
